Concussion & Return to Learn

Did you know that an estimated 225,000 Canadians suffer concussions annually?  Some of these will be your students. Educators can play an important role in prevention and recognition of concussion and assisting students in the concussion recovery process. Topics covered in this session will include: Concussion – What is it?; Effects of concussion on school learning and performance – what to watch for; strategies for supporting concussion recovery – what to do; roles and responsibilities – who does what; and useful tools and resources. 

ABOUT Dr. Erica Baker

Dr. Erica Baker is a psychologist specializing in neuropsychological assessment. The majority of her current work involves evaluation of individuals with known or suspected traumatic brain injury, including concussion. In over a decade of work, Dr. Baker has assessed and offered guidance to hundreds of people with concussion/traumatic brain injury. Dr. Baker is a board member of the Brain Injury Association of Nova Scotia, a member of the steering committee of Concussion Nova Scotia, and an Advisory Committee member of the Nova Scotia Provincial Acquired Brain Injury Strategy.
